The Hindu Temple of Canton was filled with young talent Saturday, May 11 for the third annual Sur Aur Taal “Beats of Passion.” This singing and dancing competition brought together young toddlers and adults who performed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional Indian forms of performance. One of the most unexpected performances was young Aashi Bora of Novi who rapped “Apna Time Aayega” from Gully Boy. The event was organized by Rachna Chandra, owner of Taj Cottage, Alka Srivastava and Subha Jayaraman. This year’s judges were Amit Deshpande, Shyam Thakker, Alka Jupudi, Lisa Sheth and Anagha Huprikar. All funds raised were donated to DIWA, the Detroit Indian Women’s Association.
