Summer is a time to loosen up your style and opt for light, breezy and colorful. The darker, moodier hues of fall of winter have given way to vibrant prints, patterns and textures. I’m sharing four trends that will be all over the runways and in your favorite stores this season.

Color Blocking

Color-blocking is an eye-catching trend that dresses up the most simple of silhouettes, like this elegant bias-cut sheath dress from the “Cushnie for Target” collaboration in Target stores and online right now. The placement of color blocks on items of clothing acts as an optical illusion, and can make you appear slimmer or taller. (Sign me up!)

Shop the look: Two-tone slip dress, Target; Nude strappy sandals, JusfFab.

Lace is a feminine fabric that looks lovely on any woman regardless of age. This soft and dainty skirt is from one of my favorite purveyors of lady-like styles. While cream and white shades are de rigueur, I have seen several iterations of lacy looks rendered in trendy neon shades. It’s so refreshing to see a classic fabric made modern with a splash of color.

Shop the look: White blouse (shop similar); Crochet A-line midi skirt, Chicwish; Headband with pearls (shop similar); Gold braided necklace, Shopbop.

Tropical Prints

Tropical hues are always a welcome sight in the heat of summer. This maxi dress is a showpiece in and of itself and needs very little to make it pop. I’ve paired it with chunky statement earrings and braided sandals that are a dupe for a much more expensive style popularized by a couture fashion house this year.

Shop the look: Tiered maxi dress, J.Crew; Acrylic lemon clutch, Amazon; Braided chunky heeled mules, Shein.

Chintz Print Dresses

I remember wearing chintz print dresses lovingly sewn by my mother as a young girl, so I’m delighted to see their recent resurgence in popularity. Delicate floral prints, puff sleeves and ruffles adorn this pretty dress from the LoveShackFancy collaboration with Target. There’s something so timeless about a feminine maxi dress tied at the waist. Women have worn them for centuries and will probably continue to do so for many more!

Shop the look: LoveShackFancy for Target puff sleeve dress, Target; Oversized floppy hat, Forever 21; Espadrille pumps, JustFab.
