Made with sweetened condensed milk powder, mava peda is likely to become one of your favorite desserts.
3 cups dry milk powder (mava powder)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon ghee
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
5 to 6 strands of saffron (optional)
Use a microwave-safe big bowl to mix the milk powder, sugar and heavy whipping cream.
Mix well and microwave for 5 minutes. After each minute, stop to stir the mixture. You should see the sugar melt, and after 3 minutes, the mixture will get thick.
After 5 minutes of microwaving, the mixture will start leaving the bowl’s surface. (Note: You can make peda on a regular stove too. Just keep stirring for 5 to 7 minutes until mixture starts leaving the surface.) Take it out and spread the mixture on a plate to cool. Sprinkle with cardamom powder and saffron.
Once it is warm, knead well. (If it feels dry, add 1 teaspoon ghee or milk and make small balls using a 1 tablespoon measure.)
Use a pedha stamp if you have one, or just flatten the balls slightly to make peda.
