Recipe: Spicy gluten-free pizza

My go-to spicy gluten-free pizza recipe uses a naturally gluten-free pizza crust. I use this chebe bread to make the pizza crust mix. Chebe bread (pronounced CHEE-bee) is distinctive cheese bread originating from Brazil. Chebe bread pizza mix is naturally gluten-free and primary ingredient is with tapioca flour.

For this recipe, I make a spicy pizza sauce with tapioca flour and spice powder that makes the sauce gluten-free as well. Cayenne pepper and smoked paprika added to the sauce add the needed spiciness to the pizza and can be adjusted to meet your spice level preference.

This spicy gluten-free pizza crust is a unique recipe, easy to make and tastes delicious. You can also make a vegan version of this recipe by substituting the cheese and milk with dairy-free alternatives. (For more of my healthy recipes click here.)


Pizza crust

1 box of chebe bread mix

1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

2 large eggs

8 tablespoons milk/milk substitute

Spicy pizza sauce

3 tablespoons tapioca flour

1 cup of milk, or more as needed

2 tablespoons butter

½ cup finely chopped onions

2 cloves garlic minced

1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

½ teaspoon oregano

½ teaspoon pink or sea salt

1 teaspoon cayenne powder

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Pizza toppings

Spicy chicken

1 lbs chicken sliced

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons avocado oil

½ teaspoon pink or sea salt

1 teaspoon cayenne power

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Use your favorite toppings. I used peppers, olives, tomatoes, onions, basil, pineapple, mushrooms and grated parmesan cheese for this recipe.



Pizza crust:

Preheat oven to 450 F. Blend the chebe mix with oil, cheese, eggs. Slowly blend in the milk. Knead dough with hands until smooth. If too dry, add more milk. Place dough ball on a 14” round baking tray that is lightly oiled. Roll the dough out and press the dough with heel of hand flipping the dough occasionally, until it covers the tray evenly. Poke small holes on the surface by using a fork. Bake the crust for 7 minutes.

Spicy pizza sauce:

Heat butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until the onions are golden brown. Add the garlic and sauté for one more minute. Add cayenne pepper and smoked paprika and cook until the spices are lightly roasted and fragrant. Now add the tapioca flour cook until it has lightly browned.

Next, mix the milk, parmesan cheese, oregano, salt and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir the mixture continuously until the sauce has thickened and cheese has melted. This should take about 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Spicy chicken:

Heat butter and oil in a pan over high heat. Add the sliced chicken and sauté on high until chicken is cooked and the sides are crispy and golden brown. Now add Cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt and cook until the spices are lightly roasted and fragrant.

Assembling the pizza:

Spread the spicy pizza sauce on the pizza crust. Add the spicy chicken and toppings of your choice and bake for 10 mins or until crust is lightly brown. Finally add the shredded cheese and let it bake for an additional two minutes or until the cheese has melted. Server immediately.
